Smoked Tempeh ‘Bacon’

If you’re plant based or vegan, the one excuse that you hear all the time from people for not being plant based is “bacon”.  Typically the conversation is, “plants are nutritious, and meet all the requirements for maintaining the health of your body”, the response to which is “But bacon”.  For some reason people love their bacon.  Well, let me assure you, you can go vegan and still get your bacon fix with options like this tempeh bacon.  I’ve done and seen many other types of vegan bacon, but this one is pretty easy and hits all the notes for smokey and savory.  So the next time bacon is the response, hit’em with a piece of this tempeh (not literally of course).  The piggies will thank you.

Afghan Style Quinoa or Rice

If you like aromatic dishes, then this recipe is for you.  For me, there’s something comforting when you cook with spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom.  They make the house smell “healthy”, for lack of a better word.   Of course these spices are chock full of anti-oxidents, so their aroma fits, and the olfactory sense is a big player in the way things taste.

Basil Pesto

My back yard is a mountain. Well, I guess technically not a mountain, but it’s a big hill. Well, not big, but definitely steep. Going up it is a chore, and mowing it is a struggle. But I’m not complaining, because first, it gives the back yard character; second, when you get to the top you have an amazing view; and third, my husband usually mows it, not me (he needs the exercise anyway, ;)).
